Maker kit
Building on the design language of Harman/Kardon, the task was to create a flagship speaker that would stand out in any room. My aim was to honour the company’s roots while introducing a twist —unexpected, yet almost inevitable.
Timeless design often emerges from two extremes: either the subtle neutrality of aesthetic minimalism, or a deliberate, bold iconicity that remains relevant across time. For this project I embraced the latter path, aiming to create an unconventional piece.
Recent designs from the company have featured bold metal handles as defining, iconic elements. Here, the soundbox rests on three mirror-polished aluminum legs, drawing inspiration from furniture design. This gesture raises the top touchscreen to a reasonable height, making the interaction easier.
A robotics kit for schools. It allows kids to build their ideas using real electronics. Our aim was to reach instituions working with tight budgets. They needed a rugged maker kit, a system made to last. Previous solutions featured proprietary technology and flimsy parts with costly replacements. We created a building system with components replaceable at any hardware store.
The central hub connects to different peripherals with standard telephone plugs. All these modules are housed inside cloudy polycarbonate cases, which protect yet subtly reveal the electronics inside. Each case comes with replaceable velcro tape, so kids can assemble prototypes easily.
